Rock & Roll Brand, (detail) by Artur Silva

Collaborate with Brazilian-born artist Artur Silva on a large-scale digital collage that explores this region's popular culture. In his own work, Silva examines the way that images in advertising and the general media create oversimplified representations of cultures. He appropriates and modifies these images to create works that investigate his own role in a commodity-driven culture and how he negotiates his existence in this system. Participants will share and document the items that they find valuable in their personal lives and then use this imagery to create a digital collage that reveals the material-based values of the region.

TELL US WHAT YOU VALUE MOST…

Artur Silva will be visiting schools, churches, and other organizations to document items that individuals find valuable. Participants will be asked to bring an item that they find significant and valuable in their lives—your grandmother’s wedding ring, your wii, a letter from your father, your dog, anything that you would like to talk about and document. The object will be photographed and may appear in the final, collaborative digital collage. Call the Arts Center if your organization would like to host the artist, or drop in at one of the public times at the Arts Center:
Thursday, November 6, 5:00–7:30 p.m.
Sunday, November 9, 12:00–4:00 p.m.
