National Standards

NA-VA.9-12.1 Understanding and applying media, techniques, and processes
• Students apply media, techniques, and processes with sufficient skill, confidence, and sensitivity that their intentions are carried out in their artworks.
• Students conceive and create works of visual art that demonstrate an understanding of how the communication of their ideas relates to the media, techniques, and processes they use.

SASD Standards

Art & Design
C1- Performance Standard: Students will explore basic skills and demonstrate
Benchmarks: Students will be able to produce quality art using basic problem solving, individual style, technical skill of media and craftsmanship.

J1-Performance Standard: Students will reflect and talk about works of art in basic terms
Benchmarks: Students will learn the role of art criticism and aesthetic knowledge in art and design should be an action: sample- Student will critique their own and others artwork in order to reflect on its aesthetic meaning and cultural and historical influences.

L1-Performance Standard: Students will use problem-solving strategies that promote fluency, elaboration and originality.
Benchmarks: Students will demonstrate knowledge and skills that communicate clear and focused ideas based on planning, research and problem solving demonstrated by multiple sketches.

B1- Performance Standard:
Students will recognize that artists and cultures throughout history have used art to communicate ideas and to develop functions, structure, and designs.

Language Arts
A.12.1-Performance Standard: Use effective reading strategies to achieve their purpose in reading.
Benchmarks: Apply word attack and context to determine word meaning. Gather information to make generalizations/inferences about the text. Distinguish between fact, opinion, literal and figurative meanings of terms.

C. 12.3- Performance Standard: Participate effectively in discussion.

F.12.1- Performance Standard: Conduct research and inquiry on self-selected or assigned topics, issues, or problems and use an appropriate form to communicate their findings.
