A CONNECTING COMMUNITIES COLLABORATION

The summer and autumn of 2008, eight artists led a series of weeklong workshops devoted to do-it-yourself (DIY) crafts. The DIY craft movement emphasizes sustainability, individuality, and living simply. DIY craftspeople strive to stop the homogenization of American culture and to create work driven not by capitalism but rather by a sharing community.

This project promoted DIY ethics to make craft technologies and skills accessible to all and to encourage individuals to create their own material goods. Join the community of DIYers to learn new skills, to create fabulous objects for your personal use, or even to create a means of additional income.

Our Community Partners: Boys and Girls Club of Sheboygan County, Hispanic Service Club, Hmong Mutual Assistance Association, Lakeland College, Lakeshore Technical College, Northern Wisconsin Regional Council of Carpenters Local 731, Partners for Community Development, Project Youth, Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County, The Salvation Army, St. Clement Parish, Sheboygan Area School District, Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce, Sheboygan County HHSD-Wraparound Mentoring Program, and University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan.

Connecting Communities projects are made possible by vital grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and an anonymous donor. Additional funding and in-kind contributions make the individual projects possible.
