Matt Nolen
New York artist Matt Nolen created a ceiling-to-floor tile mural for
the largest of the washrooms. He was the only artist of the seven not
to have previously been a resident in Arts/Industry. Formally trained
as an architect, Nolen received his Bachelors of Architecture from
Auburn University in Alabama after studying at Alabama’s Gadsden Museum
School. His work, complex painted imagery on elaborate ceramic vessel
forms, prepared him for the complexities of this commission, and his
washroom pulsates with colorful, exuberant imagery on the walls,
ceiling, counters, and fixtures.
