Lantern Towers & Magic Shadows

SUBLIME SPACES & VISIONARY WORLDS—THE MAGIC LANTERN SHOW
Sheboygan adults and children have been working on elements of The Magic Lantern Show with Nana Projects artists in The ARTery at the Arts Center all summer long. Paper cutouts based on art from the Arts Center’s current SUBLIME SPACES & VISIONARY WORLDS exhibition will grow to larger-than-life proportions in the hands of Nana Projects lanterneers, who will use them to create the shadow animation of the Magic Lantern Show. Lighted lantern towers visible from blocks away will turn the Festival Green into a shimmering wonderland.

Lantern Towers & Magic Shadows/The Magic Lantern Show is a project of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center and its Community Partners: Boys and Girls Club of Sheboygan County, Hispanic Service Club, Hmong Mutual Assistance Association, Lake Country Academy, Lakeland College, Lakeshore Technical College, Northern Wisconsin Regional Council of Carpenters Local 731, Partners for Community Development, Project Youth, Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County, St. Clement Parish, Sheboygan Area School District, Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce, Sheboygan County HHSD-Wraparound Mentoring Program, University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan.

NANA PROJECTS, INC., the studio of Molly Ross & Co., is a company of artists and visual alchemists inventing innovative works of art that draw people together in public spaces, strengthening their sense of community identity through shared cultural experiences. The company specializes in original “cultural performances” including Paper Lantern Parades and Magic Lantern Shows with animated shadow projections performed live.
