Preschool Red/Blue Class Program
The Arts
Our arts-based curriculum is an ideal base for early childhood education. Through an exploration of the arts children are developing essential skills to facilitate their early learning experiences. Introduction to basic art concepts is covered during this year. Line, shape, color, and texture are explored through a variety of open-ended, child-directed art projects. In addition to these planned art projects, children are encouraged to easel paint, work with clay, and experiment with the wide variety of art media that are made accessible in the classroom. The contemporary art in the galleries provides the inspiration to explore ideas, medium, or technique. The gallery walks offer an opportunity for children to express their own feelings and ideas about the art. Looking and learning, questioning and understanding, and creating and assembling, are all everyday components of our preschoolers' daily experiences.
Music and Movement
Music and movement are part of the daily curriculum and are often enhanced by a FOOTLIGHTS performance. Large motor skills are developed through creative movement and dance and include locomotor skills, balance, and body awareness. The children are encouraged to move freely as they choreograph their own dance. Many styles and types of music provide the background for learning about rhythm, beat, tempo, and recognizing the sounds of instruments. Movement activities such as stretching, balance beam, and large parachute also enhance gross motor development.
Socialization
An important part of the day is Discovery Time when children are allowed to choose the activities and friends they wish to play with. During this extended playtime, the children have the opportunity to initiate their own games and "make believe" activities with each other and with their teachers. They develop important life skills such as sharing, negotiating, listening, and respecting others. In engaging with the children, the teachers model these behaviors as well as help the children to expand their play.
Learning Centers
In the learning centers, there are a wide variety of educational manipulatives available so children can learn valuable pre-math and pre-reading skills while they play. A writing/drawing table is available to practice pre-writing skills. A daily living corner includes a kitchen and dress-up area with lots of opportunity for imagination and pretend. A quiet reading corner is also available where a variety of books can be enjoyed alone or with a group.
Three- and four-year-olds need plenty of nurturing, encouragement, positive feedback, and hugs. We provide an environment where children explore and discover, a place to feel comfortable and cared for as they learn to love learning.
Monthly and quarterly payment plans are available.
