TO HAVE AND TO HOLD: CERAMIC ART VESSELS

The ARTspace gallery in Kohler Village presented an exciting gathering of ceramic vessels from a select group of nationally recognized artists. The exhibition To Have and To Hold brings together five artists, all developing various container forms in clay.

Francine Ozereko (MA) uses the carving technique of sgraffito to create layers of playful imagery on her stacked vessels. Katherine Dube (CA), an artist and research chemist, incorporates complex scientific structures into her unconventionally shaped vessels. Veteran Minnesota Potter Jeff Oestreich has worked in the ceramic field for forty years. Function is at the core of his salt glazed ceramic work, with a focus on angular forms and subtle earth tones. San Francisco based Diana Fayt creates large oval vessels with hand drawn botanicals that call to mind the classic printmaking method of etching. Inspired by the mountains of North Carolina, Michael Kline creates traditional stoneware that evokes the natural environment. Megan Bogonovich (NH) uses terra-cotta clay and majolica glazes, reminiscent of Tuscan artisan pottery but with a contemporary twist. Whether it is elegant vases, delightful dessert bowls, shapely pitchers, or functional teapots and teacups, vessels are essential objects that surround us and enliven our personal spaces.

All works in this exhibition are available for purchase with proceeds from sales going toward the support of the Arts Center and its educational mission.
