Who volunteers at the Arts Center?
Friends of Art, the Arts Center 's volunteer organization, is a group of nearly 700 people ages 14 and up. Some people volunteer a few times a year, others occasionally, once a week, or even daily. They have varying backgrounds and interests, but something they all share is their dedication to volunteering at the Arts Center. It is only with the help of these Friends of Art volunteers that the Arts Center 's mission can be accomplished...to encourage and support innovative explorations in the arts and to foster an exchange between a national community of artists and a broad public that will help realize the power of the arts to inspire and transform our world.

What do the volunteers do?
Every department at the Arts Center works with volunteers. For example, the Education Department staff train volunteers to become docents (tour guides) who encourage children and adults alike to explore the galleries and discover the world through art. The Marketing Department works with volunteers to process mailings and to distribute newsletters and brochures to inform the community about programming. The Performing Arts Department trains volunteers for Readers Theatre for Children, to usher for performances, and to assist behind the scenes.
