STRETCHING THE TRUTH
February 10–May 3, 2008
Oliver Herring, Leon (detail), Digital c-print photographs, museum board, foam core, and polystyrene, 36 x 61 x 35” with vitrine, Courtesy of the artist and Max Protetch Gallery, NY.
Focusing on photography, this exhibition will feature works by artists who demonstrate this medium’s rapidly expanding boundaries. With a basis in models or sets that produce a constructed image or with the employment of innovative processes including multiple exposures, repeated or layered negatives, digital augmentation, or collaged prints in both two-dimensional and sculptural form, the works manipulate the medium to present a new reality that questions the veracity of “truthfulness” generally associated with photographic representation.
