COMMUNITY ARTS INTERNSHIP

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts complex, is seeking a Community Arts Intern for the summer. Candidates will work closely with Community Arts staff members to support the Community Arts Department programming in Connecting Communities residencies, the Community Gallery, the Social Studio, and special projects. Specific areas of focus depend on departmental needs and the intern’s skills and interests.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of Connecting Communities programs.
  • Assist with the organization and documentation of programs, creating documents or systems to catalogue participants, their work, or whole residencies.
  • Assist and/or lead hands-on workshops for people of all backgrounds, varying from at-risk youth to people with memory loss.
  • Facilitate visitors’ experience in The Social Studio as needed.
  • Assist with Arts Center special events, including Midsummer Festival of the Arts July 18 and 19, Levitt AMP Sheboygan Music  , and Arts Center’s participation in the Fourth of July parade.
  • Scan and archive documents relating to Community Arts.
  • Frequently move supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to assist artists and staff.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively with many constituencies, including: coworkers, department heads, Arts Center patrons, and artists-in-residence
  • Ability to organize large amounts of information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong interest and experience in studio art
  • Familiarity with hands-on art making processes and various material knowledge

Summer 2020 Internship Dates

June 1-August 21, 2020 (may be flexible), 40 hours a week, including some nights and weekends
