EDUCATION INTERNSHIP

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts complex, is seeking an Education Intern for the summer. Interns will work closely with the education staff to implement a variety of programs, specifically with camps, classes, and workshops, to engage visitors in the exhibitions and inspire creativity. Summer interns will primarily assist in summer art camps for ages preschool through teen: visual arts, ceramics, cooking, and performing arts. Specific areas of focus depend on departmental needs and the intern’s skills and interests.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the maintenance of studios, organization and inventory of education storage.
  • Prepare materials and assist instructors for summer camps and classes.
  • Assist with hands-on workshops for groups of all ages, including people with memory loss.
  • Assist with implementation of education programs, like summer camps and classes: Toddler Arts Day Camp, Mini Arts Day Camp, Arts Day Camp. Experience working with early childhood age learners is beneficial.
  • Participate in Arts Center events, including the summer concert series, and Midsummer Festival of the Arts (July 18 and 19).
  • Participate in the planning and execution of Chair City Cookout, an event related to the Wisconsin Art Environment Consortium.
  • Prepare program packets, presentation and workshop materials as needed.
  • Frequently move supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to assist artists and staff.

Qualifications

  • Currently obtaining or have completed a degree in museum education, art education, or studio art
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with hands-on, visual art-making processes and workshop planning
  • Ability to work with people of all ages; early childhood and youth experience beneficial

Summer 2020 Internship Dates

June 1-August 21, 2020 (may be flexible), 40 hours a week, includes some nights/weekends

Some required dates are: July 4, July 18 & 19.
