GROUNDS MAINTENANCE INTERNSHIP

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts complex, is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Intern for the summer. The surrounding landscape complements the diverse programming at the Arts Center and the many outdoor sculptures while enhancing the overall Arts Center experience. The intern will also have the opportunity to assist at the Art Preserve—a 54,000-square-foot satellite facility scheduled to open to the public in late summer 2020, set on a 38-acre green space rising above the Sheboygan River. The intern will work closely with staff members and independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all areas of grounds maintenance including, but not limited to, planting, pruning, mulching, weeding, watering, and irrigation
  • Ecological restoration:  Removal of invasive species while promoting native species
  • Opportunity to learn equipment maintenance
  • Frequently move supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Frequently work in outdoor weather conditions
  • Assist with Arts Center special events including Midsummer Festival of the Arts (July 20 & 21) and Summer Concert Series

Qualifications:

  • Currently obtaining a degree in horticulture, arboriculture, ecology, or related field
  • Basic knowledge of landscape plants, trees, and shrubs
  • Basic knowledge of power equipment such as garden tractor, string trimmer, and blower

Summer 2019 Internship Dates
June 3–August 23, 2019 (may be flexible), 40 hours a week, includes some nights/weekends
