Cynthia Consentino

Cynthia Consentino’s work utilizes the figure to delve into our collective experience and consider what forms our perceptions and values regarding gender, familial and social roles, and art. Consentino delves into visual symbols and story (myth, folklore, religion) and investigates how ideas of beauty, the feminine, and ornament define perceptions.

Consentino’s work has been exhibited at The Thoreau Gallery (NH), Herter Gallery (MA), Gallerie Chiz (PA), Rhodes Art Center (MA), APE Ltd. Gallery (MA), John Elder Gallery (NY), Art Museum of South Texas, Fuller Craft Museum (MA), Leslie Lohman Gallery (NY), American Museum of Ceramic Art (CA), DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum (MA), and Ameringer Gallery (FL), among others.

She is the recipient of the Blanche E. Colman Award, Berkshire Taconic Artist Award, the Massachusetts Cultural Council Award in Craft, and the American Craft Council Artist Award, among others. Her work has been reviewed in Ceramics Monthly, Sculpture Review, The New York Times, Artscope, and The Chicago Reader, among others.

Her work is in the collections of DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum (MA), Muzeul de Arta (Romania), Fuller Craft Museum (MA), and Rhodes Art Center (MA), among others. She has been an artist-in-residence at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts (ME), Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park (Japan), Oregon College of Art and Craft Junior Artist Residency in Ceramics, and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s Arts/Industry at Kohler Co. (WI), among others. In 2005 Cynthia completed a commission for the John Michael Kohler Arts Center to create a washroom with over two thousand relief and hand painted tiles.

Consentino received a BFA from The Cooper Union College of Arts and Sciences and an MFA from University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
