Raye Fore

Arts/Industry: Pottery, 1984

After he found his way around, Raye Fore said that he felt more at home in Kohler than he did in California. This tribute was prompted not only by the respect and consideration he received from fellow artists and Kohler Co. employees but also by the enjoyment and challenge he found working with new slip, glaze, and firing methods. In addition to the slip-cast pieces he made, Raye found the processes required to make models for his sculpture using high-density foam and molds turned out fascinating byproducts. He created some variously shaped individual wall pieces and tiles incorporating cutouts and decorated them with circles and spirals. Raye received his B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and his M.F.A. in 1978 from Washington State University, Pullman. He has taught at the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts, Portland, and the Arts and Crafts Co-op in Berkeley, California. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Graystone Gallery in Portland, Oregon; DBR Gallery, Cleveland, Ohio; and William Traver Gallery in Seattle, Washington, among other locations. His pieces have also been selected for group exhibitions at California Polytechnic, Pomona; Garth Clark Gallery, Los Angeles; and the Erie Clay National in Erie, Pennsylvania, where a purchase award was received.
