Christy Georg is an artist/adventurer. She has worked as a deckhand aboard schooners and thru-hiked the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail and 500-mile Colorado Trail. Endurance, achievement, and the impossible Sisyphean attempt to capture the ‘present moment’ drive her work.

Rob Fisher called Georg “…a sculptor of wit and ingenuity, clearly in the tradition of Jean Tinguely and Bruce Nauman, but brilliantly original in her use of existential humor to invigorate the works.” Born in Chicago and raised in Houston, she received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, MFA from Massachusetts College of Art, and also studied glassblowing at the Pacific Northwest College of Art.

Georg has been awarded twenty artist residencies worldwide including the MacDowell Colony (2009), Fine Arts Work Center (2007–2008), Sculpture Space (2009), Roswell AIR (2005), de Fabriek in the Netherlands (2015), and The Arctic Circle in Norway (2012). Her sculpture has received awards from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (2011), Artists Fellowship (2012), University of Rhode Island Sea Grant (2006), the Mellon Foundation’s Blanche E. Colman award (2009), New England Art Award (2009), and the Leighton International Artists Exchange Program (2012).

Georg has held solo exhibitions at the Contemporary Artists Center in North Adams, MA; the Roswell Museum; Gettysburg College; Gardiner Gallery at Oklahoma State University; University of Massachusetts at Lowell; the Trustman Gallery at Simmons College in Boston; and the Khyber Institute of Contemporary Art in Halifax. She received the Visual Arts Sea Grant from the University of Rhode Island (2006), a Blanche E. Colman award from the Mellon Foundation (2009), a New England Art Award for sculpture (2009), a grant from Artists Fellowship (2012), and the Lighton International Artists Exchange Program grant (2012).
