Renée Gertler’s work explores the relationship between space and architecture often using Nasa photographs and paranormal imagery as inspiration. She reimagines the challenging concepts of space and time using simple materials such as papier-mâché and brown paper bags.

Her sculptures and installations have been exhibited at Headlands Center for the Arts (CA), San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery (CA), Di Rosa Art Preserve (CA), San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art (CA), New Langton Arts (CA), Spaces Gallery (OH), Southern Exposure (CA), Eleanor Harwood Gallery (CA), Patricia Sweetow Gallery (CA), and Romer Young Gallery (CA). She has been awarded the Anthony and Cadogan Fellowship and a Danish Arts Council Grant. Gertler has attended artist residencies at Arts/Industry in Kohler Co. (WI), Spaces (OH), Vermont Studio Center, Pilchuck School of Glass (WA), Macdowell (NH), and Kala Art Institute (CA). She holds a BFA and MFA in sculpture from California College of Arts and studied landscape architecture at Harvard University.
