Alix Knipe received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln in Ceramics in 2013. She has a BA in Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota and a BA in Environmental Studies and Eastern Religious Studies from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL.

Alix makes sculptural ceramic vessels that draw upon the natural world for inspiration. Each work precariously balances between softness and rigidity, vessel and sculpture, monumentality and intimacy. Alix is especially interested in the synthesis between the cultural constructs of beauty, history, and belief, how these manifest themselves in material culture and art.

During her graduate studies she studied ceramic traditions in both Turkey, as a Fulbright Research Fellow, and in Burma with the help of a Graduate Student Fellowship from National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, NCECA.  In addition, she has held residencies at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Carbondale Clay Center, and was an invited artist at the international symposium KeravanSaray Bulusmas, Battalgazi, Turkey. Knipe’s work has been shown in numerous exhibitions internationally and in the United States. Most recently she had a solo exhibition at Carbondale Clay Center, Carbondale, CO and at the ArtSpace Gallery in Glenwood Springs, CO.
