Kate MacDowell’s hand-built and delicately carved porcelain sculptures respond to environmental threats and their consequences, including air pollution, global warming, clearcutting, and pesticide misuse. Her sculptures reveal the rifts and frictions between man and nature. Based out of Portland, OR, MacDowell’s work has been shown internationally in group and solo exhibitions, and throughout the United States, Japan and Europe at such art fairs as, Scope New York, Art Amsterdam, London Art Fair, Showoff Paris, NEXT, Art Chicago and Solo Project Basel.

Her work has been published in such periodicals as SKULLSTYLE: Skulls in Contemporary Art and Design (NY), Dopplegange: Images of Human Being (Berlin), Dark Inspiration: grotesque illustration, art and design (Hong Kong), The New York Times Sunday Magazine, American Craft, BANGart (Italy), and Quotation: Worldwide Creative Journal, (Japan), among others. Her work was also featured on the CD and single cover art for Erasure’s new album, “Tomorrow’s World” designed by Tom Hingston.
