V’Lou Oliviera

V’Lou Oliviera is a multitalented artist, whose work includes fiber arts and quilting. She received the Juror’s Choice award at the Houston International Quilt Festival and a first-place award for fabric art at the American Quilt Society exhibition in Des Moines, Iowa.

Oliviera joined the faculty of the University of Oklahoma in 1977. Under her leadership, the ceramics department grew and cultivated students who went on to academic careers in the field of ceramic art. In 2013, Oliviera was named the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts’ Irene and Julian J. Rothbaum Presidential Professor of Excellence in the Arts at OU. The award has been presented annually since 1995 to recognize exemplary leadership in the arts and arts education.

Oliviera earned her BA in art from Humboldt State University and her MFA degree in ceramics from the University of Washington.
