Yumiko Ono

Yumiko Ono was born in Kobe, Japan, then moved abroad and studied in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Israel, and Russia, funded by governmental scholarships. Ono received a BA in oil painting in Kyoto, completed her first MA in intermedia in Prague, then a second MA in ceramics in St. Petersburg. Ono uses various media in her work such as ceramics, painting, drawing, video, sound art, and installation. Her style has evolved from figurative painting and has gradually become more abstract through the use of geometric forms.

A prominent theme in Ono’s work is utopia/utopian architecture, which has resulted in researching various architectural styles of the world, especially in the U.S. and the U.S.S.R.
