Arts/Industry: Pottery, 1985

Chicago-based sculptor and landscape designer Phil Schuster’s intention is to transform public space and engage and inspire the public through art. Schuster’s background as a ceramic artist moved him to explore other materials, notably concrete. In this process, he has explored reverse casting, direct sculpting, and casting concrete in latex molds.

With over twenty-five years of experience working on public projects, he works with the Chicago Public Art Group and others who work to involve communities in the design and construction of large-scale, site-specific art projects. Schuster has participated in artist residencies in the US and Australia. His concrete, site-specific works can be found in various locations in the Chicago area.
