Charlie Wetzel

Charlie Wetzel is an American artist who uses sculpture, photography, and performance to explore transgender ontology. Her work celebrates queer bodies, and it explores how they interact with womanhood, the U.S. medical system, the climate crisis, and women’s place in art history. Wetzel’s honest and provocative approach to art making counters the narrative that trans womanhood is a shameful and deviant form of femininity that should be hidden from public view. By depicting transgender experience in work that is historically grounded and visually striking, she weaves an alternative narrative that says trans ways of being make logical and aesthetic sense and belong in contemporary society.
