NYC-based choreographer Catherine Galasso will bring two modern dance works by the late choreographer Andy de Groat to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center. Both works, Get Wreck and Fan Dance are important dances from the 1970s. They require a local cast of interested and experienced movers to perform with Galasso and company. The two dances will be performed on a program that includes Galasso’s original work, notes on de groat. 

Get Wreck
Number of dancers needed: 4-6
Number of rehearsals: 5-7, 1-2 hours each

A 16-minute improvisational performance with a detailed rhythmic structure, performed to a live score of spoken text. Looking for experienced movers who are comfortable with improvisation and navigating complex counting and musical timing.

Fan Dance
Number of dancers needed: 4-6
Number of rehearsals: 5-7, 1-2 hours each

Fan Dance is a 5-minute dance involving a precise walking pattern and synchronized arm movements, performed to recorded music by Michael Galasso. Looking for dancers with some experience who are comfortable with both set choreography and improvisation in performance. A wide range of ages are particularly encouraged here; looking for all movers from teens to seniors!

Get Wreck Chorus
Number of “chorus” members: 6-10
Number of rehearsals: 2-3, 1 hour each

Looking for singers, musicians or actors who are comfortable keeping a steady beat (like a metronome), and are comfortable using their voice in performance.

All rehearsals and performances will take place at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.

All participants will receive complimentary tickets to the performance.
