10:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Learn the quilt-making process from start to finish in this one-day class, and leave with a completed work of art for your wall. Students will learn to hand piece a six-by-six-inch quilt top, baste, hand quilt, sew a border, and secure that quilt to a frame. (Frames are provided.) The entire process will be done with a needle and thread, no sewing machines required. In January 2018, instructor Heidi Parkes made one six-by-six-inch stretched-canvas quilt each day for an exhibition at Var Gallery in Milwaukee.
Techniques you will explore in creating your “soft painting” include visible hand piecing, applique, embroidery, and layering with an emphasis on playfulness and concept. Heidi will also share details about how to scale up this project for making future framed quilts.
