Chicken Wire Empire and Bella’s Bartok

At the Midsummer Festival of the Arts

11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Chicken Wire Empire—Bluegrass

Chicken Wire Empire began as a four-piece traditional bluegrass band. After years of honing their traditional skills and performing an Old & In The Way tribute show, CWE now blends old with new. The band gathered a following in Milwaukee, WI, that has led to playing throughout the region with their new quintet promoting their new album What Moves Mountains. Featuring Ryan Ogburn (mandolin), Jordan Kroeger (upright bass), Ernest Brusubardis IV (fiddle), Greg Brundage (guitar), and Jon Peik (banjo), Chicken Wire Empire takes audiences on a journey through space and time, or at least help you escape for a moment.

2:00–4:00 p.m.
Bella's Bartok—Circus Punk/Klezmer

All little children grow up one day—all except the bedazzled and glittered boys of Bella’s Bartok. Inspired by elements of vaudeville, centuries of street performance, and an unyielding drive to promote camaraderie, Northampton, MA-based Bella’s Bartok delivers a passionate kaleidoscope of sound. The songs are born of Americana and folk music of their immigrant grandparents, blended with the joy of a particular brand of pop sensibility. Audiences often pick up on Bella’s Bartok’s main influences such as Frank Zappa, System of a Down, Tom Waits, and Oingo Boingo.

Bella’s Bartok performances are a primal stand against oppression and a declaration of joy in the face of adversity. From quiet reflections on loss to the howl of justice in four-part harmony, Bella’s Bartok delivers a sweaty, soulful dance party that is sure to leave the audience happily breathless.
