Preschool Perspectives: 20/20 Vision

April 18–May 30, 2021
Preschool Perspectives: Tending installation view at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, 2020.

This Preschool Perspectives exhibition emerges from circumstances quite different from previous years. Staff and children all gained a new perspective, clarity on learning and teaching virtually, and in-person during a pandemic20/20 vision.

The children started the year together, in small groups, divided into two classrooms. The 3-year-old classes were canceled due to COVID-19. Masked and spaced out for social distancing in the classroom, the children rose to the occasion. Even a pandemic would not interfere with their love of friends, learning, playing, and creating together.

During the ten weeks spent teaching and learning virtually, ideas were growing for collaborative art making upon the return to a classroom setting.

The “sneak peek” opening of the Art Preserve of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center offered new opportunities for 4K classes to be held at the new building. At the Art Preserve, students explored the work of art-environment builders connecting it to the collaborative works in this exhibition.

Preschool Perspectives is supported by the Kohler Trust for Arts and Education, the Frederic Cornell Kohler Charitable Trust, Kohler Foundation, Inc., and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
