The Big Sheboygan Shebang, led by Tomáš Kubínek, a Connecticut performance artist, was a sold-out vaudevillian extravaganza including a wacky, yet moving, performance and street festival featuring the unique talents and stories of over 250 adults and children from the region. As part of the Arts Center’s AMERICAN STORY programming, the project explored the diversity of the area’s culture through performances that showcased the divergent aspects of the Sheboygan experience. The project began with a week-long residency with Kubínek as he traveled throughout the county to unearth unique talents and voices. Kubínek returned to Sheboygan to present his professional work to the community in a sold-out evening performance.
Kubínek was joined by his constructed company of performers, which resulted in a fantastic community event held on the main street of downtown Sheboygan. The festivities included food, acts by street characters, and performances by local community groups.
Connecting Communities collaborations are supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Bert L. and Patricia S. Steigleder Charitable Trust.
