General Sisters is an artist collective consisting of artists Ginger Brooks Takahashi and Dana Bishop-Root. The Sisters look on neighborliness, or “sistering,” as an extreme act. With their neighbors, General Sisters nurture soil, grow food, and care for their community in North Braddock, Pennsylvania. They also run a store named General Sisters in North Braddock. Their earth-based practice extends to the air, as they also monitor local coal-plant emissions. The collective has exhibited at the Jewish Museum, New York; Williams College Museum of Art, Williamstown, Massachusetts; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Royal Academy of the Visual Arts, Copenhagen.
