Art in Public Spaces

Michael M. Moore / tres birds workshop, Prism. Emitting. Abstracted. Radiant. Light. (P.E.A.R.L.), 2018; wood and glass.

The Art in Public Spaces project generates a creative exchange between artists and the Sheboygan community. It develops interactions through the creation of new works of public art and connects people with their own creativity while enabling a diverse public to build a cultural identity that facilitates positive change.

Art in Public Spaces welcomes new voices and perspectives to collaborate with artists-in-residence working across disciplines. The project engages Sheboygan’s Spanish-speaking community members by partnering with local businesses, churches, and services that serve the Latinx community.

Download a Bilingual Walking Map and take a walking tour downtown to explore all these installations.

Through bilingual (Spanish and English) workshops, artists-in-residence share their art practice with community members; responding to community needs and interests; and collaborating with individuals, organizations, and local businesses in the creation of new public artworks. The works are sited in various locations around downtown Sheboygan. The Art in Public Spaces project aims to empower Sheboygan communities and nurture interaction through the creation of art that “re-activates” public spaces in the city.
