M.I.K.E.

Project M.I.K.E. (Music Integrated Kiosk Environment), 2006.

In summer of 2006, the Arts Center and its Community Partners brought two incredible artists to Sheboygan to create M.I.K.E.: Music Integrated Kiosk Environment. Wisconsin artist Richard Saxton and Indiana sound artist Stuart Hyatt collaborated with college students and adults to build M.I.K.E. at Lakeshore Technical College. M.I.K.E., a public sculpture that is also a performance stage and recording studio, was created by combining the parts of a grain bin with other vernacular forms.

Following its completion, M.I.K.E. was used to record an original CD featuring over 70 composers, musicians, storytellers, poets, and other community members in August 2006. When not visiting other institutions, M.I.K.E. resides at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

M.I.K.E. has been made possible by vital grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and an anonymous donor. Additional support has come through partnership with Lakeshore Technical College of Cleveland, WI, and in-kind contributions from Brock Grain Systems, Truck Equipment, Inc, Quasius Construction, Sheboygan Scrap Metals, and FLOR.
