The Arts Center’s 69 three- to five-year-old Preschool children created an art environment in response to the work they explored in the galleries and the discoveries they made through their own curiosity and lessons throughout the school year. The broad concept of neighborhood became the focus of this exhibition as we explored what a neighborhood is and what it means to be a good neighbor, a thoughtful neighbor to nature, and a respectful neighbor to other cultures and different points of view. The children are learning there is room at the table for everyone.
Regular visits to the galleries featuring the 2018 exhibition series Live/Work and the current Mise-en-Scène series fueled the students’ creativity. Discussions and projects embracing the idea of neighborhood set the stage for Preschool Perspectives: Room at the Table, which is a metaphor for inviting everyone to bring their ideas to the table, to welcome all, to listen to all, and to join in the larger conversation of our world community.
The Arts Center Preschool’s unique curriculum brings art to life through reading, observing, and reflecting on experiences through oral, written, Spanish and American Sign Language, and visual-arts activities as well as through creative movement, yoga, drama, music, nature, and play.
