The Lenore G. Tawney Fellowship fosters new engagement with pioneer fiber artist Lenore Tawney’s art environment, which is on display at the Art Preserve. The John Michael Kohler Arts Center holds 486 pieces of Tawney’s work in its collection, including artwork, collages, assemblages, furniture, and supplies.

The fellowship is open to scholars, writers, curators, or artists of all disciplines and educational levels with demonstrated engagement in research, study, or other activities relevant to the Tawney collection. In keeping with Tawney’s interdisciplinary spirit, candidates may apply with projects that study overlooked aspects of works and movements related to Tawney or discuss previously unexplored connections between those works and art from other disciplines.

Fellows conduct their research onsite at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center using the Tawney collection and other JMKAC resources. The inaugural Lenore G. Tawney fellows began their fellowships in 2023. The next call for submissions will be in 2025.

This fellowship is generously supported by endowment funds provided by the Lenore G. Tawney Foundation.
