•  Thursday, October 5—Drop-in and Draw: Beastly Manifestations with Kristin Plucar*

Art Preserve, 4:30–6:30 p.m.

Join artist Kristin Plucar to create illustrations inspired by the work of Levi Fisher Ames and his carved menagerie of real and imagined beasts. Sketch in the collection area featuring Ames’ work to find inspiration. Workshop includes demonstrations on creating patterns and marks and developing a composition for your work.

•  Friday, October 13—Member Happy Hour Ahead of White Box Theatre Performance

5:00–7:00 p.m.

Enjoy a free members-only Happy Hour with two complimentary drink tickets and light hors d’oeuvres. Then tour the exhibition Kea Tawana: I Traveled Into the Future in a Dream with Curator Laura Bickford. 

A performance of White Box Theatre’s production Kea and the Ark follows at 7:00 p.m. (Buy your tickets to the show now.) It is the story of a woman who single-handedly built an eighty-six-foot-long, three-stories-tall, twenty-ton ark in the Central Ward of Newark, New Jersey. The production offers history, myth, lullaby, and visual poetry using sculpture, puppets, movement, storytelling, and synth electric cello.

9:00–10:00 a.m.

Sign up for a members-only exhibition tour with our Chief Curator Jodi Throckmorton and members of the curatorial team, followed by coffee and pastries in the CAFE.

•  Thursdays, October 19 & 26—TL;DR (Too Long; Didn’t Read!) Film Screening & Discussion with Artist Patricia Piccinini*

Film Screening: Thursday, October 19, 5:00 p.m., in the Theatre
Film Discussion: Thursday, October 26, 6:00 p.m., in the Social STUDIO

Meet us in the JMKAC Theatre on October 19 for a screening of the Swedish fantasy film Border, directed by Ali Abbasi. The following week, come back to discuss the film with moderator Patricia Piccinini, who will lead the conversation about the film and its connection to her exhibition Patricia Piccinini: encounters of another plot (now on view at the Arts Center). Light refreshments will be served.
