Ancestral Futures

Join Ka Oskar Ly in making Ancestral Futures—an engaging exploration of our past and present to shape future possibilities. Experience the rich tradition of HMong batik arts and textile-based workshops facilitated by Ly.
HMong batik, a time-honored resist-dye textile practice, has safeguarded the stories, legacies, and imagination of its people for generations. Handmade textiles are gifted from birth to the next life.
“Our pasts leave us lessons,” says Ly. ”Our presents seed imagination to elevate the next generations. The future is shaped now – based in our context and fueled by our desires. Discerning our roots through kinship is the way forward. The act of making nurtures our connections to manifest our futures.”
The textile pieces created during Ly’s residency will be installed into pop-up window galleries across Sheboygan. Each installation symbolizes portals into past, present, and future transformation through the power of art, culture, and imagination.

Workshop Schedule:
• Wednesday, July 26 from 4:00–7:00 p.m. with Synergy Kpop group (open to youth)
• Thursday, July 27 from 5:30–8:30 p.m. (open to the public)
• Tuesday, August 1 from 5:30–8:30 p.m. with Luna Bellas (walk-ins ok)
• Wednesday, August 2 from 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. (open to the public)
