Isabel Castro Community Mural

Community Day with artist Isabel Castro at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, 2021.

February–April, 2022

Help artist Isabel Castro paint the next Social STUDIO mural!

Artist Isabel Castro is working with community members of all ages between February and April 2022 to create a mural for the Social STUDIO representing how Sheboygan is their hometown.

About the Project
This project invites the local community to connect with the Arts Center’s 2022 theme, Ways of Being. The themed exhibitions feature artists who recontextualize our past, reorient our present, and project new, viable futures.

What does it look like when, together, we create a visualization of what our community means to us? How can artists show us what is possible and what we can accomplish together?

Artist Isabel Castro is working  with community members of all ages between February and April 2022 to create a mural for the Social STUDIO representing how Sheboygan is their hometown. To create the final design, Isabel gathered intergenerational inspiration from those age 55+ who joined her for an online Art Links Sheboygan program in 2021 and from Sheboygan County teens.

Isabel visited with students from Warriner High School, Etude Middle and High Schools, South High School, North High School, and Farnsworth Middle School to talk about her art practice and distributed a kit for teens to share their own idea for a mural design with Isabel. She used those ideas in her planning process. Local teens could also pick up kits from the Social STUDIO to participate in the brainstorming process.
